Gender-Sensitive Monitoring and Evaluation

A step-by-step guide on how to mainstream gender into M&E tools for project design and start-up

Introduction

What is Gender-Sensitive Monitoring and Evaluation and Why is it Important?

To effectively work toward women’s political empowerment, it is necessary to understand the role and responsibilities of women, identify key stakeholders and the barriers that hinder women's access to representative resources, political agency and achievement within a given context.

To effectively address the barriers to women's political empowerment, it is important to design the intervention around the core democracy problem and its root causes, and use the gender-sensitive logframe to trace out and visualize the pathway of change (activities, outputs, intermediate results and objectives).

To effectively measure progress at different levels of change in women's political empowerment process as visualized in the logframe,  develop parity, equity and empowerment indicators.
